The Center for Oral Health Care and Research

Groundbreaking

On a very rainy day in October, the Dental School broke ground on it’s new $95 million Center for Oral Health Care & Research.

Despite the weather, there was a wonderful turnout at the event, with over 150 students, faculty, staff, alumni, local practitioners and friends of the school. Kenneth L. Kalkwarf, DDS, MS, president ad interim and former dean of the Dental School welcomed everyone to the site of the future of oral health care education, training and patient care in the state of Texas. Joining him at the podium were Bill Dodge, DDS, Dean; Michael Boland, DDS, class of 1975 and current Dental School Alumni Association president and finally, the person who received the biggest round of applause, 1st year student class president, Elan Lee. Elan’s class of 2016 will be the first class to graduate from the new building.

Due to the weather, we were not able to actually turn the dirt at the site but the school’s and university’s leadership gathered on stage with our partners to symbolically clear the site for this impressive new building. If you were not able to attend the event on October 26, 2012, a video of the entire ceremony, as well as photos from the event, are available in the links below.
