Accommodations
Is transportation provided To/From the Hotel/School of Dentistry?
No. All the hotels in the area stopped offering transportation service after the COVID-19 pandemic. We always ask every year and will update you if that changes.
How much are the rooms?
The hotel has a special rate for us, which is lower than the one posted on their site. Each room has a sofa bed as well. All these rooms are subject to availability upon confirmation you need a room:
Studio Queen (Up to 3 students): $89
One bedroom King (Up to 3 students): $105
Suite with 2 double beds (Up to 3 students): $122
Suite with 2 bedrooms (King and Queen / Up to 5 students): $165
Suite with 2 bedrooms (Queen and 2 doubles / Up to 5 students): $210
Am I required to stay at the hotel recommended by the School of Dentistry?
No. However, if you are selected for LEAD and have other accommodations, please let us know as soon as possible.
Will I get my own room or will I share with another student?
This is up to you. You can request your own room, or you can request to share the room with one or more students, depending on the size of the room. However, keep in mind that the more you split the cost with other people the cheaper it will be for all of you.
Can the bill be split between all the students staying in the room?
Yes. However, this is something that you will work out with the hotel directly when checking in and/or checking out.
When is the full hotel payment due?
The hotel requires a credit/debit card on file for each room during check in. Final payment is charged upon check-out. Then you will have time to decide if the credit card on file is charged or you pay cash after receiving your stipend.
What if I do not have a credit card?
You can leave a cash deposit for the amount the hotel requests. You can also share a room with another student who has a credit card.
If several students are in one room, how are incidentals going to be charged?
The hotel will have a list of the names of the students per room. Please inform the front desk when you order anything personal so they know who to charge it to.
If selected, should I plan to arrive in San Antonio a day before program begins?
It is recommended that you arrive the day before so you can be on time on Monday morning; especially if you will be staying at the hotel.

Meals, breaks, weekend
Are there any places to eat within walking distance from the SOD?
Yes, Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, and Jimmy John’s, are located very close by. Starbucks is on campus. Also, you can walk to the University Hospital cafeteria through two buildings (School of Dentistry and University Hospital).
Is there a time alloted for lunch breaks?
Yes, everyday, at least an hour, sometimes longer.
Are there any other breaks in the schedule?
The LEAD schedule is fairly jam-packed, however, there also will be a few breaks throughout, and when possible, Friday afternoons clear for travel (not guaranteed).
Are there any events scheduled on the weekends?
Does the hotel recommended by the program offer free breakfast or dinner?
Often the hotel we recommend does offer free breakfaste/dinner, but you will recieve more accommodations information soon!

Parking
Is there a fee for parking at UTHSCSA SOD?
Yes, see schedule of fees HERE . Please note, LEAD 1, 2, and 3 students will be charged for an entire month even though the program is three weeks; Zone 4 Non Reserved is usually available.
After paying parking fee, will I be issued a parking permit or tag?
Yes, please be sure the name you provide on the online application and the name on your driver license match exactly; also please jot down your vehicle's VIN, license plate number, make, model, color, and year to present at parking office.
Is there any free parking on campus?
No, except during weekends and after business hours during the weekdays.
Could I incur any parking fees?
Yes, it is possible; please keep all receipts. You will have an opportunity to go to UT Police on the first morning, after Orientation to do a couple of things: pick up your badge ID, and pay for your parking permit. However, before that time, if you park in the visitor's parking or at a parking meter, you will have to pay for that. It should not be signficant, but we suggest having some change or cash available for at least half a day's worth. If for some reason there is a delay in receiving your badge or parking permit, then there could be more charges.
Please note, you will be reimbursed for UT parking and UT parking permits, after the LEAD program is over; receipts will be required.
Stipend
If selected, will I be awarded a stipend?
Yes, if selected, a stipend will be awarded by the end of the program, in the form of a check.
Many students opt to use this stipend to pay for their hotel accommodations.
Do I have to participate in all aspects of the program to receive stipend?
Yes, you must attend all sessions.
It is possible that your stipend could change due to missing sessions.
Can check be cashed in San Antonio, with no fee?
Yes, at Frost bank; there is one location near the SOD.
Is there a separate stipend or funds provided for parking, hotel, food, gas, etc.?
No other stipend is awarded, however you will be reimbursed for UT parking and UT parking permits, so please keep all receipts, to turn in at the end of the Program. No other funds are provided; please plan appropriately.
Is there any reason I could be asked to leave program early or not receive a stipend?
Yes, due to poor attendance/participation or disrespectful/inappropriate behavior. Any issues would be reviewed by the director or committee and dismissal would be determined and approved by the program director, Dr. Pineda.
