Advanced
Education Programs - OVERVIEW
Applicants to any advanced dental education program described
in this bulletin must be graduates of dental schools accredited by
the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
Graduates of dental schools not accredited by the Commission must
present a minimum combined score of 1000 on the verbal and quantitative
portions of the Graduate Record Examinations Aptitude Test to be eligible
to apply for admission. Applicants from countries where English is
not the native language are required to score a minimum of 550 on
the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to be eligible to
apply for admission.
Certificate Programs
Applicants must have earned a DDS or DMD prior to matriculation and
have acceptable academic records and references.
Degree Programs
Those applying to a graduate program at the end of the first year
of the certificate program are required to have demonstrated satisfactory
scholastic performance by earning at least a B average in postdoctoral
courses, to be recommended for graduate study by the faculty of
the
program, and to be approved for admission by the Graduate School
of Biomedical Sciences.
General admission requirements of the Graduate School are:
- An undergraduate/professional degree, grade point average no lower
than 3.0, subject preparation for proposed area of graduate study.
- A minimum of 1,000 for the combined scores on the verbal and quantitative
portions of the Graduate Record Examinations Aptitude Test and 550
on the TOEFL for applicants from countries where English is not the
native language.
Residency Programs
General admission requirements include a DDS or DMD degree and satisfactory
academic records and references.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency applicants must be admitted
to Medical School.
Residency Training
The Health Science Center and associated hospitals offer four residency
training programs which include the Advanced Education in General
Dentistry Program, the General Practice Residency, the Dental Public
Health Residency and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency
These programs focus on providing educational opportunities by maximizing
patient care activities and community oral health. |
