Remembering Dr. L.K. Croft
May 1, 2020
The School of Dentistry lost a beloved friend and colleague last month. Lloyd Koenning “L.K.” Croft, D.D.S, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020. Dr. Croft lived to his 85th year and was surrounded by his loved ones in Boerne, Texas.
Dr. Croft was a distinguished leader in the field of periodontics by previously serving as president of the Texas Society of Periodontists and on the Board of Trustees for the American Academy of Periodontology.
Dr. Croft proudly served our School of Dentistry as an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics upon his retirement from a 31-year career in Dallas.
He was extremely dedicated to our residents; valuing mentorship and his role in their education. Dr. Croft loved sitting chairside during a resident’s first surgical procedure serving as their assistant and became an essential partner in developing the residents’ Practice Management course.
Having held a successful private practice, in which most of his staff remained with him for up to 30 years, Dr. Croft’s experience in structuring that course was irreplaceable. Dr. Brian Mealey, program director, shares that almost a decade after Dr. Croft retired for the second time, he continued to help manage that course while also advising our graduates on their careers. He never broke contact with former residents.
The Croft family’s plans for a memorial service are pending. You can read Dr. Croft’s full obituary HERE
