Initial Appointment: Dr. Asma Khan

During the last UT System Board of Regents meeting, several out-of-cycle UT Health San Antonio faculty promotion and tenure applications were reviewed. We are proud to announce the following dental faculty member was awarded initial appointment with tenure.
•Asma Khan, B.D.S., Ph.D. from the Department of Endodontics was awarded Associate Professor with Tenure.
Dr. Khan comes to the UT Health San Antonio’s School of Dentistry from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Department of Endodontics. She received her B.D.S. from Gulbarga University in India and earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Maryland. Dr. Khan will continue her didactic and clinical teaching of predoctoral students and residents. Furthermore, she will direct this summer’s introductory course for incoming endodontic residents. She looks forward to treating patients in faculty practice and she plans to continue her research by studying extracellular vesicles and the evaluation of safe and effective analgesic regimens.
Of special note, after a one-year Clinical Research Fellowship at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) at NIH, Dr. Khan was recruited to Dr. Ken Hargreaves’ laboratory as a post-doctoral fellow from 2003 – 2006.
