2021 Griffin Humanitarian Award goes to Donly
May 28, 2021
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) presented Kevin J. Donly, DDS, MS, with the 2021 Ann Page Griffin Humanitarian Award.
Dr. Donly, professor and chair of the Department of Developmental Dentistry, received his award at the Academy’s annual meeting on May 24.
The Griffin Humanitarian Award is bestowed to honor an AAPD member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to improving the oral health of underserved populations.
Under Dr. Donly’s leadership, the Department of Developmental Dentistry manages required senior rotations at the Laredo Health Department in Laredo, Texas and at the Ricardo Salinas Clinic in San Antonio, Texas. Both sites are positioned to offer care to medically underserved and low-income populations.
Seniors treat the children of Laredo and San Antonio by providing primary dental care services under the supervision of dental faculty. The rotations not only provide patient care to the community but are meant to underscore the importance of community dentistry by exposing dental students to the great need of these patient populations.
The Ann Page Griffin Humanitarian Award was established in May 2010 by the AAPD to honor Ann Page Griffin, an AAPD member. The full list of 2021 AAPD awardees can be found at AAPD.org
