Ms. Shan Zhao Reeves joined the School of Dentistry on March 1, 2023 as Vice Dean of Finance and Administration.
Reeves brings tremendous expertise to the school, with more than twenty-five years of experience in finance, planning and administration in healthcare settings, from not-for-profit large healthcare systems to academic medicine. Reeves previously served in the Department of Medicine, UT Health San Antonio, as Senior Director for Finance and Administration. In the Department of Medicine, with 650 faculty and staff which trains 220 medical residents and fellows, she helped guide its steady rise of productivity and financial performance in clinical operating revenues, research grants and clinical trial awards. In her 7-year tenure, the department doubled its operating budget to the current $100 million. Prior to coming to UT Health San Antonio, Shan spent 13 years at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. While there, she served as a Financial Analyst in the Hospital Finance department, then as Director for Business Development and Senior Administrator in the Department of Medicine. While there, she supported the growth of the only Bone Marrow Transplant program serving Western New York and nearby regions of Canada, established an advanced endoscopy center, negotiated, acquired and integrated three medical oncology practices into the medical center and helped expand practices with a steady near 2-digit annual volume increase, in a very competitive oncology regional market. Reeves holds a Master's Degree in Finance and Management Systems from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tong Ji University in Shanghai, China. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and helps train and mentor the upcoming healthcare administrative leaders. “Given her success in leading financial operations, her experience developing education-, patient- and research-focused administrative support services and her skillful strategic abilities, I am confident Shan will be an excellent Vice Dean, elevating all of our work. In addition to overseeing the financial and administrative operations of the school, Shan will serve as a key advisor to the school’s leadership team. We look forward to her partnership and to benefitting from her expertise,” said Dean Peter M Loomer. Dean Loomer thanks Ms. Lydia Leos, Associate Dean for Administration, for the oversight and support she provided to the Vice Dean’s team through the leadership transition. He also recognizes the excellent work of the school’s finance team – Chantal Le and Fernando Paredes – who worked very hard to maintain smooth operations during the interim period. Please join the School of Dentistry in welcoming Ms. Shan Zhao Reeves!
